Schiphol Project Luggage

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

Project Baggage 70 MB.

Schiphol is leading the way with its ultra-modern 70 MB baggage system, putting it on track to become one of the most innovative airports in the world. The project was initiated in 2013 in close collaboration with KLM, and the programme has now been fully implemented. The total investment amounted to 800 million euros.

Baggage system 70 MB

The baggage system is to Schiphol what the circulatory system is to us. 70 MB stands for 70 million bags. Baggage Schiphol transports passengers' suitcases from check-in to the point where the relevant airline (or handler) takes over for the final leg to the aircraft.

Reford Project Management, a subsidiary of Aratis, played an advisory role in the 70 MB programme within the Schiphol organisation during the period from 2013 to 2016. Its responsibilities were:

  • Contract advice on technical solutions and permits

  • Contact management on the application of design choices

  • Safety and escape routes
