Aratis' client builds large SAF plant
Our client, a pioneer in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), is working globally to scale up alternatives to fossil kerosene.
The company supplies SAF based on waste and residual streams, such as used frying oil, and is developing production facilities in the Netherlands, the US and Sweden, among other places. Our client is one of the first suppliers of SAF for commercial flights and works closely with airlines, airports and energy companies to accelerate the sustainability of aviation.
In the Netherlands, our client is building Europe's first large-scale factory specifically for SAF production. The plant will have a capacity of approximately 100,000 tonnes of SAF per year, plus 15,000 to 35,000 tonnes of bio-LPG and other by-products. The plant runs on regional waste fats and sustainable hydrogen from wind energy and is expected to deliver at least an 85% CO₂ reduction compared to fossil fuels.
KLM has committed to purchasing 75,000 tonnes of SAF annually for ten years, while SHV Energy will purchase the bio-LPG.
