Project SITURN

NAM, Arcadis and WellGear are collaborating on a large-scale decommissioning programme: SITURN

Aratis provides support to the Arcadis team in the areas of procurement and contract management.

One of the largest industrial decommissioning projects ever will be launched in the Netherlands over the next fifteen years. Under the name SITURN, NAM, Arcadis and WellGear are joining forces to safely remove approximately 350 former gas production sites, 800 extraction wells and 1,700 kilometres of pipelines and return the land to the landowners in a clean condition.

The tasks are clearly divided: WellGear is responsible for sealing the wells, Arcadis takes care of the surface work such as demolition, soil remediation and the removal of pipelines, while NAM acts as the client and strategic partner. The collaboration follows the VESTED methodology, which focuses on long-term goals and mutual benefit.

An important priority is the reuse of materials and infrastructure. From using old gas pipelines for geothermal energy to using pipeline routes as new infrastructure routes, the project aims to minimise waste and stimulate innovative applications.

The SITURN project not only aims to restore the landscape, but also to create sustainable opportunities for the region and the sector.
